Instructions No. 4045
Difficulty: Beginner
Working time: 3 Hours
1. Prepare the natural twine as a rustic detail
Wrap a natural ribbon twice around the first birch disc and secure it with a little glue. Important: Leave a long piece of ribbon hanging down at the beginning. You’ll need this later to tie a neat bow that isn’t too short.
2. Assemble the base: Glue the “ terracotta-” pot to the large birch disc
Place the larger terracotta-pot with the opening facing down in the center of the large birch disc and glue it securely all around. Turning it upside down creates a stable base, and the birch disc also protects your tabletop.
3. Create the second level
Place the smaller terracotta-pot on top of the first pot (also with the opening facing down) and glue it in place. Then glue the next birch disc on top. This creates a multi-tiered etagere that can be beautifully decorated later.
4. Arrange flowers and greenery all around
Cut flowers and green twigs to the appropriate lengths and arrange them around the tiers. Secure everything step by step with hot glue. Hot glue sets quickly and holds securely, so the branches will maintain their slightly curved shapes without slipping. Be sure to distribute the decorations evenly so that the “ etagere ” looks balanced from all sides.
5. Stabilize the top: Twigs and a saucer as a candle holder
First, glue narrow leafy twigs to the top birch disc so the transition looks smoother and the surface is decoratively edged. Next, use a generous amount of hot glue to attach a terracotta-saucer upside down (i.e., turned over) as a candle base. This step is crucial: The saucer provides the candle with a secure, level surface and helps keep it stable so it doesn’t tip over.
6. Tie a Bow and Finish
Use the excess ribbon ends to tie a bow. Then realign the flowers and greenery and remove any fine glue threads if necessary.
Place the “ etagere ” as an autumnal table decoration, on the sideboard, or as an atmospheric decoration for the entryway.
