Macramé
Macramé is a handicraft technique that is becoming increasingly popular. Rather than using simple knot techniques, wool and yarns are used in macramé to create stylish hanging planters, practical hanging shelves or trendy dreamcatchers through intricate knots.
Whilst traditional knot techniques are mainly used to create cosy cushions and rugs, macramé takes knot techniques a step further: simple knots can be used to make friendship bracelets, and with every new knot you learn, you can create artistic wall hangings and even DIY hammocks and chairs! Plain wooden rings can be turned into shopping bags. Metal rings are transformed into lampshades, and old wooden boards can even be ‘upcycled’ into decorative wall shelves using knotting techniques.
Knot decorative hanging baskets! This season, they’re an indispensable part of contemporary home décor. The natural look, the use of natural materials and the possibility of combining these with other materials in macramé fascinate us all.
Enjoy the relaxing process of using knot techniques and discover this technique for creating lots of new, trendy home accessories – from large oriental wall hangings or DIY pouffes to small wind lights on the garden table, there are plenty of design possibilities. As well as natural-coloured yarns and classic embroidery twists, there are also many other colourful wools and yarns that are ideal for the macramé hobby.
You’ll find that knot techniques are by no means ‘old hat’; as a craft technique, they’re more on-trend than ever and are sure to remain a part of all areas of our daily lives for many years to come.
