Practical sewing idea for beginners
Fabric cut
First, download the template for fabric cuts. You will need a piece of fabric measuring 20 x 60 cm in total, excluding seam allowances. Using a Strich-Ex pen, trace the printed 20 x 20 cm template (marked A) three times side by side onto your fabric and mark out the seam allowance as shown in the small diagram (B). Cut out the fabric. Overcast the fabric edges to prevent them from fraying.
Food-safe fabric waterproofing
To ensure the fabric is protected against dirt and is food-safe, there are two ways to waterproof it:
One option is to sprinkle the fabric with natural beeswax pellets. Place a sheet of baking paper over the top and iron the wax in to form a protective layer.
An alternative is to brush the fabric with TexWax. Use a brush for this. Once the fabric has dried, ironing it transforms the waterproofing fluid into a reusable, breathable film.
