Your creative time-out: Crafting dragonflies from wooden balls - Unique and relaxing
Step-by-step instructions: How to craft your own personalised dragonfly
Step 1: Prepare the wire
Cut a 30 cm long piece of copper wire. Fold the wire in half and twist the closed end. This will give your dragonfly stability and structure.
Step 2: Thread on the wooden balls
First thread a 6 mm wooden bead onto the wire. This is followed by five 15 mm wooden balls. Make sure to apply some handicraft glue between the individual beads to fix them in place. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly so that your dragonfly is stable.
Step 3: Making the angel wings
While the glue dries, get to work on the angel wings. Draw angel wings on coloured folding paper - you will need one small and one large wing for each dragonfly. Cut out both angel wings and fold them once along the centre line to create structure.
Step 4: Attach the angel wings
Glue the folded angel wings together in the centre. Then punch a hole in the centre of the angel wings using a hole punch or awl. Give the angel wings their classic shape by opening the sides slightly. Then carefully thread them onto the wire and fix them to the wooden ball with a little glue.
Step 5: Complete the dragonfly
Now pull the last wooden ball and the final wooden bead onto the wire. Fix these in place with handicraft glue and leave everything to dry for a few minutes.
Step 6: Bend the feeler
Finally, give your dragonfly its characteristic antennae. Use a bamboo skewer to bend the protruding wire end into two filigree antennae.
